The Symphonic Orchestra of the Setúbal International Music Festival is a project that brings together young music students from the region’s artistic schools. The aim of this project is to promote the artistic and technical development of its members, providing them with a high-quality experience and a space for learning and socializing. The orchestra holds two annual training sessions, which are times of intense preparation and rehearsal, where the musicians can work under the guidance of experienced conductors and professionals. Their performances, part of the Festival’s programme, are the culmination of this hard work and showcase the dedication and commitment of the young musicians. Through this project, the SIMF values and gives visibility to the young students while also contributing to the strengthening of the local cultural and musical landscape.
Since 2022, the Symphonic Orchestra has been under the musical direction of conductor Pablo Urbina.
Pablo Urbina is the current Principal Conductor of the Orquestra do Algarve and, since 2019, the Principal Director of London’s Orquestra Vitae. Awarded 3rd Prize at the Siemens Hallé International Conducting Competition 2023, his primary goal as a conductor is to use music as a vehicle to transform and improve society, dedicating his career to this purpose.
A graduate of the Royal College of Music in London, he has conducted orchestras such as the Spanish Radio and Television Orchestra, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, The Hallé, Ulster Orchestra, Britten Sinfonia, Castilla y León Symphony Orchestra, Hong Kong Chamber Orchestra, National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain, Waco Symphony Orchestra (USA), Balearic Islands Symphony Orchestra, Córdoba Orchestra, Málaga Philharmonic Orchestra, Navarra Symphony Orchestra, Granada Orchestra, and the Tunisian Symphony Orchestra.
